The extraordinary North of Peru is rich in arqueology, history and picturesque landscapes. Between the Pacific with his coastal deserts and the rainforests in the Amazon Basin nestle the fertile valleys, the high mountains and the cloud forests. There, many of the ancient great powers had rosen and fallen, a long time before the Incas. The North, thanks to its cultural treasures, is considerated the "New Egypt".
The best known cultures – Moche, Lambayeque, Chimu and Chachapoyas – achieved an advanced stage of development, exspecially in agriculture, architecture, metalworking and pottery. The achievments in precious metals processing, whose products we can admire in today's museums, testify to their goldsmithes' level of knowledge and praise the precision of those masters. The extensive and mysterious fortresses, temples and tombs adorn the surroundings of the modern cities like Trujillo and Chiclayo in North Peru.

Background:
In 2005, archeologists discovered a female Moche mummy, now known as Lady of Cao, at the archeological site El Brujo (45 km North of Trujillo). The woman's body was covered in elaborate tattoos of snakes, spiders and supernatural motifs, and buried wearing a golden crown among gold and copper items and weapons, including two war clubs and 23 spear throwers. The mummy’s discovery rewrote the history of the ancient Moche civilisation, which historians had believed was patriarchal in structure. Since the discovery of the Lady, archaeologists have uncovered more Moche female mummies that suggest women in the civilisation enjoyed high political and religious standing. Examinations of the ancient mummy revealed the Lady was in her early twenties when she died about 400 CE, possibly of complications due to childbirth.
